Marshall Centre in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Previously guest researcher at the Institute for Peace Preservation and Conflict Research at the Defence Academy of the Austrian Armed Forces in Vienna.

Born 1961 in Graz, undertook History and German Studies at the University of Graz. Graduated in 1987, habilitated for Modern and Contemporary History (19th and 20th Centuries) in 2003.

Research Focus: History of National Socialism and the Second World War, specifically Propaganda and German Occupation Policy, 20th century Scandinavian History as well as the History of Austro-Hungary in the First World War.

Born 1985, in 2005 joined the Austrian Federal Police, until 2010 in active line of duty, 2009-2015 studied History and English/American Studies at the Universities of Graz, St. Petersburg, FL and Marburg an der Lahn. Author of „The Decline of European Naval Forces: Challenges to Sea Power in an Age of Fiscal Austerity and Political Uncertainty”. Currently defense analyst at the Institute for Security Policy at Kiel University (ISPK).

Research Focus:  International Relations, US and European Security and Defense Policy, Military and Naval History.

Born 1977 in Amstetten (Lower Austria), studied History and Political Science at the University of Vienna and the University of Edinburgh. Disseration: “Terrorism. 9/11 in context: Actors, structures, trends” – published 2009 under the title: “Terrorism: Actors, structures, trends”. Further publications: “In the crosshairs: Austria and Near Eastern Terrorism 1973-1985” (2010) and “Days of terror: The OPEC-hostage taking 1975 and the beginnings of modern terrorism” (2015). Member of the Editorial Board of “Perspectives on Terrorism” (PT).

Research focus: Terrorism, Intelligence Studies, Military History, Austrian Contemporary History, Film Studies.

Born in Scheibbs (Lower Austria), studied History and English and American Studies at the University of Vienna, as well as at Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT, USA. He also taken part in numerous professor exchanges at universities around the world, most notable being those as Schumpeter Research Professor at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA (academic year 1996/97) and as Botstiber Visiting Professor at Columbia University in New York City (2007). Habilitation in Modern and Contemporary History.

Research Focus: International Relations in the 19th and 20th century, Anglo-American History since 1776, Intelligence in the 20th century, Austria in the 20th century.

Traussnig, Florian

Born 1979 in Klagenfurt and trained as a clerk. Studied History and Italian at the Universities of Graz and Bologna and wrote his doctoral thesis on Austrian exiles in US propaganda institutions of World War II.

Research Focus: US Propaganda and Austrian-Exile Research related to World War II.
