Beer, Siegfried

Ao. Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Siegfried Beer


Born in Scheibbs (Lower Austria), studied History and English and American Studies at the University of Vienna, as well as at Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT, USA. He also taken part in numerous professor exchanges at universities around the world, most notable being those as Schumpeter Research Professor at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA (academic year 1996/97) and as Botstiber Visiting Professor at Columbia University in New York City (2007). Habilitation in Modern and Contemporary History.

Research Focus: International Relations in the 19th and 20th Century, Anglo-American History since 1776, Intelligence in the 20th Century, Austria in the 20th Century.

Moll, Martin

Univ.-Doz. Dr. Martin Moll


Born 1961 in Graz, undertook History and German Studies at the University of Graz. Graduated in 1987, habilitated for Modern and Contemporary History (19th and 20th Centuries) in 2003.

Research Focus: The History of National Socialism and the Second World War, specifically Propaganda and German Occupation Policy, 20th Century Scandinavian History as well as the History of Austro-Hungary in the First World War.

Stoehs, Jeremy

Mag. Jeremy Stöhs


Born 1985, in 2005 joined the Austrian Federal Police, until 2010 active in Patrol Division (exekutiver Außendienst), History and English/American Studies at the Universities of Graz, St. Petersburg (USA) and Marburg an der Lahn. Diploma Thesis: “The Decline of European Seapower: Europe’s Navies in an Time of Austerity and Brinkmanship”.

Research Focus: Contemporary, Military and Naval history, International Relations, Conflict Studies and US Defense Policy.

Lackner, Robert

Dr. Robert Lackner


Born 1984. Studied History, German philology and English/American Studies at the University of Graz and the Institut d’études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). Work experience with UNODC, the European Commission and an international advisory firm in Vienna as well as concert organizer and corporate relations manager.

Research Focus: Terrorism and Subversion in the Middle East, Anglo-American History, Resistance and Exile Studies as well as Cultural History.

Bare, Duncan

Duncan Bare MA


Born 1988, since April 2013 Bachelor of Arts and since June 2015 Master of Arts following submission of the thesis titled “Hungarian Affairs of the US-Office of Strategic Services in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations from June 1944 until September 1945”.

Research Focus: Modern and Contemporary Hungarian History as well as the History of the American Intelligence Services from 1941-1947.

Knoll, Harald

Mag. Harald Knoll


Born 1961 in Graz, studied History and Social Studies (Teaching Degree). Since 1993 scientific collaborator with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for researching the effects of war, in Graz.

Research Focus: Prisoner of War Internment in the Soviet Union, Police in the Third Reich, the Soviet Occupation in Austria (1945-55), Resistance in the Third Reich.

Bacher, Dieter

Mag. Dieter Bacher


Born in Leoben, studied History at the University of Graz. At present, is writing his dissertation about the History of Travel and Tourism in Southeast-Europe. Since 2006, an academic collaborator with the Ludwig Boltzmann-Institute for researching the effects of War in Graz.

Research Focus: Travel and Tourism History in Southeast-Europe, Soviet Intelligence Services.

Berthold, Winfried

Winfried Berthold

Born 1941 in Leoben, completed the teaching programs for Mathematics, Geography and Physics/Chemistry at the Pedagogical Academy of Austria. Radio Education at TTS. Honorary member of the LWZ (Section: Emergency Radio).

Research Interests: Field Agent Radio Equipment, Emergency Radio Networks.

Riegler, Günther

Günther Riegler

Born 1970 in Graz, trained professionally as a retail salesman. At present is employed as a civil servant. Further training as a radio operator as well as medic. Member of the Austrian Society for Military Science, the German Society for Military Science, as well as a Friend of the Military History Museum in Vienna.

Research Interests: Asymmetrical Warfare, Commando Operations, Terrorism, Civil-Military Cooperation, Military and Martial (Police) Special Units and the Privatization of Military Duties.

Trifkovic, Gaj

Dr. Gaj Trivkovic

Born 1981 in Sarajevo, was from 2005 until 2010 a diploma student at the University of Graz. ACIPSS staff member from 2009 until 2013.

Research Focus: Contemporary History, Military History, and the Southeast-European History.

Nievoll, Lukas

Lukas Nievoll

Born 1991, at present student of English and American Studies as well as History at the University of Graz. 2014/15 exchange student at the University of Massachusetts and research assistant at Amherst College.

Research Focus: US-American Foreign Policy, International Relations as well as aspects of the so-called “Islamic State” and Terrorism.
